Our name and our ethos

We are Hillside - and we're a building on the side of a hill. We didn't even think this up ourselves. It was the name given to the building many years ago and we couldn't come up with anything that suited it better. Let's be honest, it's 0 out of 10 for originality.

Our company name, on the other hand, has far more meaning to us. We are Taura. In Māori, Taura means rope and we got the idea from the ancient story “The Rope of Many Strands.” The idea that a single strand can fray, but when woven together they become unbreakable (you see it on our logo).

For us, this story is about togetherness and unity. It is about the strength we find when we are surrounded by people who are there to support us, nurture us and, at times, challenge us. We believe those are crucial ingredients in any school - particularly one like ours.
